Russia Emphasizes Long-Term Peaceful Settlement in Ukraine

Moscow: Russian President's Aide, Yuri Ushakov, confirmed on Thursday that the proposal for a temporary ceasefire with Ukraine would ease the pressure on Ukrainian forces, emphasizing Russia's desire for a long-term peaceful settlement that considers Moscow's interests and concerns.

According to Qatar News Agency, Ushakov remarked on the US proposal for a temporary ceasefire with Ukraine, stating that their ultimate goal is a long-term peaceful settlement. He highlighted that efforts are ongoing to achieve a peace deal that accounts for Russia's legitimate interests and well-known concerns.

On the matter of the temporary ceasefire proposal, the Russian President's aide clarified that it is merely a temporary truce for the Ukrainian army, with nothing beyond that. Ushakov noted that President Vladimir Putin might announce more specific and meaningful terms for the ceasefire proposal in Ukraine.

Ushakov also stressed that the United States understands that Ukraine's potential NATO membership cannot be part of the peaceful settlement or Ukraine's future.

Earlier on Thursday, the Kremlin announced that US negotiators are en route to Russia, where Washington intends to present its 30-day ceasefire plan for Ukraine.

A few days ago, Saudi Arabia hosted talks in Jeddah between Washington and Kyiv as part of its efforts to resolve the Russia-Ukraine crisis.
