Russia Reports Capture of New Areas in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia Region

Ankara: The Russian forces took over the village of Novomykolaivka in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, southeastern Ukraine, with military units making breakthroughs on multiple combat fronts in the special military operation zone over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry reported in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Qatar News Agency, the statement added that Russian military units inflicted casualties on Ukrainian troops, totaling 1,465, mostly fatalities and injuries, in addition to destroying dozens of armored vehicles, artillery, as well as ammunition and cyber warfare emplacements.

Russian air defense forces reportedly shot down 105 hybridized fixed-wing drones, 11 HIMARS rockets, and a modified S-200 missile targeting ground objectives, the statement continued.

It noted that Russian tactical operational air forces, offensive drones, missile forces, and artillery targeted energy infrastructure facilities used by Ukrainian forces, along with long-range drones and temporary deployment sites of Ukrainian troops across 154 locations.

Over recent weeks, Russia announced that its troops have been achieving breakthroughs across several combat zones, resulting in the capture of numerous new areas in eastern Ukraine.

This development coincides with ongoing US-led peace talks aimed at reaching a ceasefire between the two countries.
