Foreign and Expatriates Minister Bassam Sabbagh discussed in New York with President of the International Committee of the Red Cross Mirjana Egger the existing cooperation between Syria and the committee and ways to enhance them to better meet the increasing humanitarian needs of the Syrians. Minister Sabbagh stressed the necessity for donors to fulfill their financial pledges in order to provide the necessary funding for humanitarian activities in Syria. Sabbagh also met with United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen, and discussed with him aspects related to the implementation of his mandate, with Sabbagh stressing the need for the United Nations to assume its responsibilities in the face of the serious threats to Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity. In addition, he held a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil Mauro Vieira, during which they exchanged views on strengthening bilateral relations in all areas of common interest. Sabbagh referred to the growing role of Bra zil within the framework of multilateral action, especially within the BRICS , which it will chair next year, expressing Syria's desire for cooperation and partnership with this significant Group.
