Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Zhang Ming said that the expansion of the organization shows its attractiveness and positive image among international structures. The Secretary-General said, during a press statement he delivered in Astana about the results of the organizations summit hosted by Kazakhstan, that one of the main outcomes of the summit was the completion of procedures for including Belarus as a full member of the organization, which now includes 10 members. He noted that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit this year witnessed more than 140 events, focusing on transportation, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, and economic and environmental issues. He congratulated President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on his country's successful presidency of the summit. It was announced during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit that Nurlan Yermekbayev was appointed as the new Secretary-General of the organization for the period from 2025 to 2027.
