Manama, Lulwa bint Saleh Al Awadhi, Acting Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), chaired a consultative meeting with civil society organisations focused on disability. The meeting discussed 2024 initiatives concerning women with disabilities and those caring for disabled individuals, reaching consensus on implementation mechanisms. Al Awadhi highlighted the need for coordinated efforts between the SCW and relevant organisations to enhance and sustain services for women with disabilities. Key proposals included simplifying the process for obtaining medical disability reports, expanding the number of authorised medical providers, and introducing a 50% reduction on government fees for women with disabilities. Additionally, there was a call to enforce existing laws that exempt essential tools and devices for the disabled from fees and taxes. The meeting also proposed establishing a day club in A'ali for women with autism and cerebral palsy, aiming to develop their skills and integrate them into society, while supporting working mothers who care for disabled children. Twelve disability-focused associations participated in the discussion, reinforcing the SCW's commitment to advancing its strategic goals for the coming year. Source: Bahrain News Agency
