Seoul: North Korea fired multiple short-range ballistic missiles toward the East Sea on Tuesday, South Korea’s military said.
According to Qatar News Agency, the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) confirmed that it detected the missile launches from the Sariwon area in the western province of North Hwanghae. While the exact number of missiles fired remains unspecified, an analysis is currently underway.
The JCS emphasized its proactive stance, stating, “While strengthening our military’s monitoring and vigilance in preparation for additional launches, we are maintaining full readiness while closely sharing North Korean ballistic missile data with US and Japanese authorities.”
The timing of the launch is significant as it occurred just hours before the US presidential election, adding a layer of complexity to the geopolitical landscape. This event follows closely on the heels of North Korea’s recent test of the new Hwasong-19 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) five days prior.
