Sharjah Beat Al Gharafa on Penalties to Win Qatari-Emirati Super Cup

Sharjah: Sharjah of the UAE won the Qatari-Emirati Super Cup after edging past Al Gharafa 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time at Thani bin Jassim Stadium on Thursday.

According to Qatar News Agency, Florin Coman gave Al Gharafa the lead in the 64th minute, before Luan Pereira equalized nine minutes later with a clever back-heel finish to force a shootout.

Sharjah held their nerve from the spot to claim the title in the opening match of the third edition of the competition.

The four-day tournament features eight teams, with upcoming matches including Al Duhail against Al Wahda on Friday, Al Sadd versus Shabab Al Ahli on Saturday, and Al Ahli hosting Al Jazeera on Sunday.
