Doha: The Shura Council affirmed the critical role played by the legislative councils and parliaments in forging peace and upholding understanding and dialogue to resolve all disputes and conflict with the aim of bringing peoples together and promoting peace and harmony all over the world. This came in a statement the Shura Council issued to mark the International Day of Parliamentarism that falls on Jun. 30 each year, celebrated under the theme: "Parliamentary diplomacy: Building bridges for peace and understanding." On the 7th anniversary of the International Day of Parliamentarism, the Council availed itself of this opportunity to extend assurances of its highest consideration to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in recognition of His Highness's generous and unlimited support for the Shura Council, stemming from its insightful vision and deep belief in the significance of the public participation in decision-making process. The Council extended the congratulation to Their Excellencies members o f the Shura Council, and all parliamentarians in various territories worldwide in appreciation of the vital role they play in achieving their peoples' aspirations and safeguarding their rights. The statement highlighted that the global peace and security face massive deterioration due to the grave violations of human rights and heinous war crimes, pointing out that the genocidal war unleashed by Israel on the Gaza Strip and other occupied territories violate all international norms and laws. Additionally, the statement expressed the Council's strong disillusionment and denunciation of these violations, calling on the international community to act immediately to halt these crimes and lift the siege on the embattled Palestinian cities and achieving justice and peace. The inability of the international community to deter the occupier and hold war criminals to account triggers the parliamentarians to exert possible efforts to lift the injustice on the Palestinian people and build the global peace, the stateme nt emphasized, urging the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and all its members from national parliaments, federations, and parliamentary organizations to exert utmost effort to stop the unjust aggression on Gaza and lift the siege on the beleaguered Palestinian cities. The statement called on governments to apply the motto of the International Day of Parliamentarism through laying the foundations of justice and building the bridges of peace and understanding by making the Occupied Palestinian Territories the launching pad from which these foundations reach out to all territories engulfed by wars and conflicts worldwide. In conclusion, the Shura Council emphasized its resolve to continue to achieve the supreme interests of the State of Qatar under the wise leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
