Shura Council Approves Draft Laws and Reviews International Participation

Doha: The Shura Council held its regular weekly session in Tamim bin Hamad Hall at the Council's headquarters, presided over by HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim. The session began with HE Secretary-General of the Shura Council Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud reading the agenda and the approval of the minutes from the previous session.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Shura Council examined a draft law concerning the exemption of certain transactions by foreign companies with military entities and their subsidiaries from income tax. This draft law, referred by the government, was directed to the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee for further study and to prepare a report for the Council.

The Council also approved amendments to some provisions of Decree Law No. 24 of 2019, concerning the regulation and management of the strategic stock of food and consumer goods. Following the review of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee's report and discussions by Council members, the draft law was forwarded to the government.

Additionally, the Council evaluated a government statement on the Council's proposal regarding agricultural support mechanisms for local farms and their role in enhancing food security. This was referred to the Health, General Services and Environment Committee for study, with an expectation to be informed of its findings.

The session included a review of a report on HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti's participation in the 297th session of the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and related meetings for the 151st session of the General Assembly in Geneva in October 2025.

Moreover, the Council assessed a report on its delegation's involvement in the meeting of the Committee on Political Affairs of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly held in Mashhad, Islamic Republic of Iran, in December 2025.
