Doha: The Shura Council held its regular weekly session on Monday, presided over by HE Shura Council Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim. During the session, the Council was briefed on the Ministry of Culture's (MoC) strategic plans for 2024-2030.
According to Qatar News Agency, the session at Tamim bin Hamad Hall featured a presentation by HE Minister of Culture Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Thani. The Minister, accompanied by several specialists from the MoC, outlined the key aspects of the Ministry's strategy aimed at enhancing the cultural landscape and preserving national identity. The presentation highlighted initiatives to balance modernity with heritage, expand cultural activities, and increase awareness of national values.
During the session, HE Al Ghanim and Council members commended the MoC's role in promoting cultural creativity and national values. The Minister emphasized developing programs that revive cultural heritage through festivals and events, and highlighted partnerships with international institutions for cultural exchange. The Ministry aims to empower youth through workshops and strengthen ties with educational institutions to foster dialogue and understanding.
The Minister also addressed plans for Darb Al Saai as a permanent cultural venue and discussed monitoring media materials to ensure freedom of expression aligns with Qatari values. Challenges facing the cultural sector include balancing heritage with modernity and engaging society in cultural activities. The Ministry seeks to overcome these by fostering partnerships and developing sustainable programs.
Council members expressed concerns over the lack of diverse cultural events and support for young talents, suggesting increased cultural activities across all regions and integrating cultural education in curricula. They urged the Ministry to consider their observations and enhance communication with the public to achieve cultural goals.
In response, HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Thani affirmed the Ministry's commitment to developing inclusive programs and valued the Council's feedback for future initiatives, expressing gratitude for their support.
