Shura Council Speaker Emphasizes Qatar’s Commitment to Development and Social Justice

Tashkent: HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim affirmed that the State of Qatar attaches great importance to development and social justice, which are at the heart of its National Vision 2030. The State of Qatar believes that development and social justice are the cornerstones of building a cohesive and advanced society, based on the principles of justice, equality, and respect for human dignity, and promoting the values of tolerance and openness to different cultures, His Excellency said.

According to Qatar News Agency, this statement was made during His Excellency's speech at the plenary session of the 150th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in Tashkent. The session, themed "Parliamentary Action for Development and Social Justice," saw participation from parliamentary delegations worldwide.

His Excellency highlighted the challenges faced by the international community in achieving sustainable development, urging a review of efforts to meet the 2030 Agenda goals amid growing poverty, conflicts, and environmental and humanitarian crises. He emphasized Qatar's commitment to supporting development and social justice through global partnerships and international efforts.

In a significant announcement, His Excellency revealed that Qatar will host the Second World Summit for Social Development next November to assess progress since the first summit. He also addressed the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestinian territories, condemning the Israeli aggression on Gaza that has resulted in significant casualties and displacement.

His Excellency described the situation in Gaza as a crime of genocide and ethnic cleansing, urging the international community to assume its moral and historical responsibility to halt the violations. He called for an immediate end to the aggression and for parliamentarians to support truth and justice.

Additionally, His Excellency emphasized the role of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in encouraging member parliaments to pressure governments into action, highlighting the failure of UN institutions in protecting civilians and upholding international humanitarian law.

In a related event, HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim participated in the 215th session of the Governing Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. The session included a review of activities from the 214th session and those of the Executive Office, as presented by HE President of IPU, Dr. Tulia Axson.
