Mogadishu: Somalia's army reported the killing of 15 Al Shabab fighters during a military operation in the central Shabelle region.

According to Qatar News Agency, the operation specifically targeted Al Shabab positions in the Jabad Godni area of Middle Shabelle. The army stated that among those killed were several senior field commanders.

The Al Qaeda-linked group has been engaged in an insurgency against Somalia's internationally supported government for over a decade. It has been responsible for numerous attacks that have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians and security personnel. The group has frequently targeted government buildings and hotels in Mogadishu and other regions of the country.
