Seoul: South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok announced that Seoul and Washington are advancing in their negotiations regarding tariff-related issues. This progress is attributed to the direct communication line that was established last month between Kim and US Vice President JD Vance.
According to Qatar News Agency, Kim shared this update during a press conference, addressing the criticism over the government's perceived lack of readiness in response to US President Donald Trump's recent threat. Trump suggested raising tariffs on South Korean goods from 15 percent to 25 percent, a move that sparked concern and urgency among South Korean officials.
Since the announcement by Trump via social media, senior South Korean trade officials have expedited their efforts, traveling to Washington to engage with American counterparts. Their goal is to clarify and resolve the uncertainties surrounding the proposed tariff changes.
