Seoul: South Korea confirmed it will continue its efforts to denuclearize North Korea and noted that it will work closely with the international community to achieve this goal.

According to Qatar News Agency, South Korea's government said on Tuesday it will continue to push for North Korea's denuclearization after US President Trump described North Korea as a "nuclear power" upon his return to office for a second term, Yonhap news agency reported.

In the same context, Spokesman for the Ministry of Defense in Seoul Jeon Ha-kyu said in a press briefing that denuclearization must be continuously pursued not only on the Korean Peninsula, but also in North Korea as a prerequisite for lasting peace and stability in the world.

In turn, an official at the South Korean Unification Ministry responsible for inter-Korean relations said separately that South Korea and the US maintained a united position on North Korea's denuclearization.

South Korea and the US have maintained a firm and united stance on the goal of complete denuclearization of North Korea, he added, noting that the government will establish a close cooperation system with the new US administration.
