South Korea: Constitutional Court to Rule President’s Impeachment Friday

Doha: South Korea's Constitutional Court announced it would deliver its ruling on Friday regarding the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol. The impeachment case centers on his brief attempt to impose martial law in the country.

According to Qatar News Agency, the court indicated that the verdict would be delivered with live broadcasts and open public attendance, ensuring transparency in the high-profile decision. The impeachment proceedings follow President Yoon's declaration of martial law on December 3, 2024, which he justified by accusing the opposition of engaging in anti-state activities. The martial law was lifted only six hours later, following a vote against it by the National Assembly.
