Spain Revokes Arms Deal with Israel in Response to Gaza Atrocities

Doha: The Spanish Ministry of Defense announced the revocation of an arms deal with Israel as part of a series of punitive measures in response to the Israeli occupation's mounting atrocities against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Ministry moved to revoke a 287.5-million-euro contract involving the purchase of 168 launch platforms and 1,680 Spike LR2 anti-tank missiles, which were slated for production in Spain by Israel, Spanish daily El Pais reported, citing Spanish government sources.

This step comes as part of the Ministry's technological disconnection plan from the Israeli military industry, announced last Friday, with the declared aim of ending Spain's technological dependence on Israel's defense sector.

With this plan in place, the Ministry will embark on operationalizing the proposed bill to prohibit the sale and purchase of arms to countries accused of perpetrating crimes against humanity before international courts, as is the case with Israel.

This bill has so far been forwarded to the Spanish Parliament on an urgent basis, as initiated by the Sumar party.
