Doha: HE Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al-Thani, captain of the Spirit of Qatar 96, together with his British co-pilot Steve Curtis, are intensively preparing for the 44th Annual Offshore World Championship, which commenced in Key West, Florida, the United States, on Sunday, and will run until November 9. According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari duo has been conducting extensive testing of Spirit of Qatar 96 off the coast of Orlando, Florida, as part of their preparations for the world championship. This participation marks their return to international powerboat racing after an absence of 11 years. With the support of the Ministry of Sport and Youth, the Qatari team will participate in the World Championship's extreme class race. Team Qatar will undergo a dunk test Monday in preparation for the competition. After passing the test, the team will proceed with the boat's technical inspections, followed by the official registration process, which will confirm their participation. The duo are set to revive the leg endary name of the Spirit of Qatar 96. The official practice sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, followed by the first extreme class race on Wednesday. More practice runs will take place on Thursday, ahead of the second race within the Race Southernmost Continental Champion on Friday.
