Doha: The "Sports for All" Open Chess Championship, jointly organized by the Qatar Sports for All Federation and the Qatar Chess Association, concluded today after drawing over 200 players from diverse nationalities.
According to Qatar News Agency, the tournament, hosted at the Qatar Chess Association Training Center, followed the rapid chess format (10 minutes plus a 5-second increment per move) and featured competitors divided into four main categories. Pravin Adwitt clinched first place, with Nasreddine Moa securing second, and Jamal Ferhi taking third.
Qatari players also delivered notable performances. Hamad Al Kuwari was named Best Qatari Player, while Lian Al Qassabi earned the title of Best Qatari Female Player. In the youth categories, Fahad Al Mansouri excelled in the under-20 group, Ibrahim Al Janahi received a special award in the under-16 division, and Mohammed Jarbi was recognized as the Best Qatari Player under-12.
President of the Qatar Chess Association, Mohammed Al Mudahka, expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration with the Sports for All Federation. He highlighted the championship's role in promoting chess across Qatari society, particularly among the younger generation. Al Mudahka added that the tournament featured a dynamic and competitive atmosphere from the very first round, praising the high level of organization that ensured an enjoyable experience for both players and spectators.
