Sudanese Armed Forces Liberate Khartoum, Declares Sovereignty Council Head

Khartoum: Chairman of Sudan's Transitional Sovereignty Council Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan announced Wednesday the liberation of the capital, Khartoum, from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who had seized key sovereign facilities including the Republican Palace and the airport on the first day of the war in April 2023.

According to Qatar News Agency, in a brief statement from inside the Republican Palace, Al Burhan declared that the city of Khartoum is now free and under the control of the armed forces.

The Sudanese News Agency (SUNA) reported that Al Burhan arrived at Khartoum International Airport aboard the presidential aircraft in an inspection visit following the RSF's defeat in Khartoum and several other sites in the capital.

Earlier, the Sudanese army announced the recapture of the Republican Palace after fierce battles, stating it had crushed RSF forces in central Khartoum, the Arab Market area, the Republican Palace, and government ministry buildings.
