Sudan’s Foreign Minister to QNA: Khartoum is Liberated from Rebel Forces

Khartoum: HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Sudan Ali Yousuf Al Sharif affirmed that the Sudanese Armed Forces and their supporting forces achieved a major victory by liberating the capital, Khartoum, from the rebellion, stressing that military operations will continue to pursue the rebel forces in all regions, especially in the Darfur and Kordofan regions.

According to Qatar News Agency, His Excellency indicated that Sudan has gone through a difficult phase during this war, which has left behind numerous humanitarian crises. He praised the support provided by fraternal and friendly countries, led by the State of Qatar, which, since the first days of the war, has been quick to provide humanitarian and medical aid to the Sudanese people.

HE the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Sudan added that Sudan looks forward to continued support from these countries in the post-war period, with the aim of rebuilding Sudan to a better state than before, expecting Qatar to be at the forefront of countries supporting this effort.

Earlier today, Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of the sisterly Republic of the Sudan Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan announced the liberation of the capital, Khartoum, and the recapture of its control from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which had controlled all sovereign facilities, including the Republican Palace and the airport, on the first day of the war in April 2023.

In a brief statement from inside the Republican Palace, Al Burhan confirmed that Khartoum is now “free” and under the control of the armed forces.

The Sudanese army announced a few days ago that it had retaken the Republican Palace in the capital, Khartoum, from the RSF after fierce fighting. The army stated that it had crushed the RSF in areas of central Khartoum, the Arab Market, and the buildings of the Republican Palace and other ministries.
