Ramallah - Ma'an - The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate monitored the Israeli occupation army targeting the homes of Palestinian journalists in the Gaza Strip with bombing with the aim of killing and destroying. On World Press Freedom Day, which passed a few days ago, a date that is universally hoped will be a sign of the advancement and expansion of press freedoms, however, in the reality of the Israeli occupation, it has become a very sad day in Palestine as a result of the crimes and genocide practiced by the Israeli occupation army against the Palestinian people in general and against the journalistic situation. In particular . Neither shields nor institutional buildings or homes were able to protect journalists According to our monitoring, documentation and follow-up in the Press Freedoms Committee of the Journalists Syndicate, until today 5/2/2024, 135 workers in the Palestinian media sector have been martyred in Palestine, 134 in the Gaza Strip and a colleague in the West Bank. Why houses? The Is raeli occupation targeted 77 journalists' homes in the Gaza Strip with aircraft missiles and artillery shells in a deadly pursuit to stop and silence the truth. Everyone left the offices and press institutions in the buildings of the Gaza Strip, about 86 of which were destroyed by missiles, and there was no longer any safety for life there nor any logistics suitable for work after the bombing, and even the neighbors of the press offices fled. Many colleagues were martyred in their offices. Examples: Hisham Al-Nawajha, Saeed Radwan Al-Taweel, and Muhammad Sobh Abu Rizq. In the field, while working and covering, dozens of colleagues were martyred by occupation bullets. Examples: Muhammad Al-Rifi, Asim Al-Barsh, Yasser Mamdouh, Akram Al-Shafi'i, Muhammad Al-Salhi, Ibrahim Lafi, and Muhammad Jaroun. Those who were not killed by conventional aircraft missiles were killed by technological aircraft and what are known as 'Doron' marches, as these bomb-laden marches with highly explosive materials targeted many journalists, including killing some and wounding others with bloody wounds. Examples: Mustafa Al-Thuraya, Hamza Al-Dahhouh, Ahmed Al-Barash, Amer Abu Omar, Abdullah Al-Hajj, Ahmed Matar, and Samer Abu Daqqa. What we mentioned was one of the most prominent reasons that prompted journalists to work from home, because there is no longer a safe place, neither press offices, nor the field, nor even the vicinity of hospitals. 33 of the journalists' families paid the price for their sons' work in this profession and were killed with rocket powder in large numbers inside their homes. Examples: The last of them a few days ago was Muhammad Bassam Al-Jamal with 4 members of his family, Moein Ayyash with 20 of his family, Mustafa Al-Sawaf with 30 of his family, Muhammad Abu Hatab with 11 of his family, Adel Zoroub with 16 of his family, the family of Salam Mayma, Abdullah Baris, Iyad Nasrallah, and Abdullah Darwish. A prayer of honor. A glaring and hurtful example of this type of crime is the assassination of journa list Heba Al-Abadla in her home in Khan Yunis, along with a large number of her family, without any party succeeding in removing their bodies from under the rubble since 10/12 of last year. Dozens of journalists live with a terrifying feeling as they see their families killed for no reason other than because they work in the journalism profession, as the occupation targeted their homes and killed their families while they were outside their homes. Examples: The killing of the family of journalist Hamza Al-Muqayd, Duaa Al-Baz, Abdel Qader Sabah, Anas Al-Sharif, Mahmoud Al-Louh, Wael Al-Dahdouh, and Moataz Al-Azayza. Many journalists and their families suffered bloody wounds and lost parts of their bodies, such as the family of journalist Muhammad Hamouda, whose house was bombed, his wife lost her eye, and his son Ahmed's foot was amputated.
