Damascus, Health Minister Dr. Hassan al-Ghabbash discussed Thursday, with a worke team from the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) ,ways to strengthen cooperation on vaccines and ensure the non-spread of epidemics. The meeting took place at the building of Health Ministry where al-Ghabbash stressed the importance of continuous coordination with international organizations regarding the vaccine and its availability, highlighting the challenges facing the health sector under the unjust blockade imposed on the Syrian people, as well as the health risks in the world. Dr. al-Ghabbash said that the national vaccination program achieved positive results in reducing dangerous childhood diseases. In turn, Gavi's Regional Director in Syria, Veronique Meva Vages, confirmed that Syria is one of the first countries, to successfully implement the vaccine program, pointing out that the staff in health sector in Syria are making great efforts despite the difficult circumstances and challenges. Vages und erlined the necessity of exchanging experiences with the Ministry's team in the field of vaccination campaigns, as it has achieved great accomplishments in this scope and the Syrian experience can be benefited from in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
