Meetings of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) Planning and Budget Standing Committee and the 2nd Session of the Working Group on Statutory Documents kicked off Tuesday in the Iranian capital of Tehran with the participation of parliamentary delegations from 21 member states including Syria.
The meetings, hosted by the Iranian Islamic Shura Council, will continue for two days, as a number of issues listed on the agenda will be discussed.
In the opening speech of the meeting, Head of Iran’s Islamic Shura Council, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, stressed that the challenge facing the West currently proves the return of Asia to the center of economic and political power in the world
Ghalibaf said that the Asian continent has become at the center of global geopolitical developments, distinguished by a number of components and historical, civilizational, cultural and economic characteristics, adding that it has assumed a central position in the international arena.
He noted that the existence of ancient civilizations, the gradual and continuous shift of the center of global power gravity from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, and prediction that Asia would become the center of economic power of international system, distinguished the 21st century to be called the “Asian Century”.
