Syrian National Dialogue Conference Underlines State Sovereignty, Building National Army, Establishing Interim Legislative System

Damascus: The final statement of the Syrian National Dialogue Conference emphasized preserving the unity and sovereignty of Syria over all its territories, state's monopoly on arms, and building a professional national army. It also called for the swift formation of the interim legislative council, which will assume legislative authority and achieve transitional justice.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Syrian National Dialogue Conference began its work earlier on Tuesday, attended by President Ahmed Al Sharaa and Foreign Minister Asaad Al Shaibani, as part of Syria's efforts to discuss the country's future with various segments of society. Participants were distributed across dialogue halls and began a transparent and comprehensive discussion on various critical issues, resulting in 18 outputs and recommendations.

The final statement reaffirmed Syria's unity and sovereignty over all its territories, rejecting any form of partition or division, and refusing to cede any part of its land. It also condemned the Israeli incursion into Syrian territories, considering it a blatant violation of the state's sovereignty and demanding its immediate and unconditional withdrawal.

The National Dialogue Conference concluded with a call for the swift issuance of a temporary constitutional declaration suitable for the transitional phase, ensuring the elimination of the constitutional void. This would expedite the work of Syrian state institutions and the swift formation of an interim legislative council to assume legislative authority and the formation of a constitutional committee to draft a permanent constitution for the country.

The final statement also emphasized the promotion of freedom as a supreme value in society, considering it a precious gain for which the Syrian people have paid with their blood. It guaranteed freedom of opinion and expression, respect for human rights, support for women's role in all fields, protection of children's rights, care for people with special needs, and activation of youth's role.

The national dialogue, according to the statement, reinforces the principle of citizenship and rejects all forms of discrimination based on race, religion, or sect, while ensuring the achievement of transitional justice through holding those responsible for crimes and violations accountable and reforming the judicial system.

The statement also emphasized the principle of peaceful coexistence among all components of the Syrian people, rejecting all forms of violence, incitement, and revenge, while launching economic development, and developing agricultural and industrial sectors through the adoption of incentive economic policies. It called for lifting international sanctions imposed on Syria, which have become a direct burden on the Syrian people.

The final statement of the national dialogue underscored the monopolization of arms by the state and building a professional national army, considering any armed formations outside the official institutions as outlaw groups.
