Syrian Participation in Islamic Labor Ministers’ Conference Marks Syria’s Reintegration into Arab and Islamic Community

Doha: Syrian Minister HE Kabawat has highlighted Syria's participation in the Islamic Labor Ministers' Conference as a significant step towards reintegrating into its Arab and Islamic community. She articulated the Syrian government's ongoing efforts to reform labor and social development sectors, underscoring the adoption of a new national strategy that addresses Syria's current challenges.

According to Qatar News Agency, the new strategy emphasizes overhauling social development and protection systems, particularly for refugees and internally displaced persons. It encompasses broad administrative and human development reforms. One of the primary objectives is drafting a new law for non-governmental organizations to ensure they have adequate civic space to operate effectively as development partners. Additionally, a modern labor law is being prepared to reflect the current socio-economic realities, as the past framework did not empower employees or foster a sense of belonging.

Minister Kabawat pointed out the immense challenges Syria faces, including an outdated legal framework and limited resources. Nevertheless, she expressed optimism due to the wealth of Syrian talent, both domestically and abroad, supporting reform efforts. She highlighted the crucial role of the Syrian diaspora in transferring expertise and skills back into the country and stressed the urgent need for vocational training, particularly since around one million Syrian children missed education opportunities due to the conflict.

To foster long-term social and political stability, the Syrian government has initiated youth training programs in refugee camps, supported by Qatar, to provide practical skills and sustainable livelihoods for out-of-school adolescents. Minister Kabawat described these initiatives as powerful and impactful.

Acknowledging the challenges inherited by Syria's new leadership, she expressed confidence in the resilience of the Syrian people and their capacity to rebuild the nation. She emphasized that Syria remains a homeland for all Syrians and called for strengthened Arab cooperation, particularly with countries like Qatar that supported Syria during difficult times.

Minister Kabawat praised Qatar's significant contributions in social and humanitarian management, considering them vital to Syria's recovery efforts. She expressed deep gratitude for Qatar's support and looked forward to enhanced cooperation between the two nations, united by shared values.
