Sri lanka: The Qatari national team has qualified for the quarterfinals of the team event at the Asian Nations Snooker Championship, currently taking place in Sri Lanka until June 28, with the participation of top Asian and international players.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari team, comprising Ali Al Obaidli, Mehna Al Obaidli, and Bashar Hussein, secured second place in the strong Group A, which included Pakistan (1), Sri Lanka (1), and Cambodia.
Qatar began their group-stage campaign with a well-deserved 3-1 victory over Sri Lanka (1), but suffered defeats in the following two matches, 1-3 to Pakistan (1) and 2-3 to Cambodia. Despite all three teams (Qatar, Sri Lanka, and Cambodia) finishing with one win each, Qatar claimed second place and the qualification spot on frame difference, behind group leaders Pakistan who won all their matches.
In the quarterfinals, Qatar is set to face India, while Pakistan (1) will take on Pakistan (2), Bahrain will play Hong Kong (1), and Malaysia will meet Hong Kong (2).
Team Qatar's Ali Al Obaidli recently won the bronze medal in the 6-Red Singles Snooker event, after his run ended in the semifinals with a 1-5 loss to Indian player Paras Gupta.
