Thailand: Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced the dissolution of parliament Friday, paving the way for new elections early next year. In a Facebook post, Charnvirakul emphasized that the decision is intended to return power to the people.

According to Qatar News Agency, the dissolution was approved by King Maha Vajiralongkorn and takes effect immediately. Elections are anticipated to occur within 45 to 60 days following the royal endorsement. During this period, a caretaker government will manage affairs with restricted powers, notably excluding the ability to approve budgets.

Charnvirakul assumed the role of prime minister three months ago with support from the main opposition party. He succeeded Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who resigned before the completion of her first year in office. Charnvirakul had committed to dissolving parliament within four months and initiating a referendum to draft a new constitution through an elected assembly.
