Ramallah - Ma'an - The Palestinian presidency announced, on Monday, that it is conducting intensive contacts with regional and international parties, especially the Americans, to stop the Israeli army's invasion of the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip. On Monday morning, the Israeli Ministry of Defense announced the start of a military operation in Rafah, which it claimed was 'limited in scope,' and called on 100,000 Palestinians to evacuate east of the city and head to the Al-Mawasi area, southwest of the Strip. The presidency said, in a statement: 'We call on the American administration to intervene immediately to prevent this massacre, of which we warn of its dangerous repercussions.' Claiming that it is 'the last stronghold of the Hamas movement,' Israel insists on invading Rafah, despite international warnings of disastrous repercussions. There are about 1.5 million Palestinians in the city, including about 1.4 million displaced people. The presidency added, "The invasion of Rafah means that on e and a half million Palestinian citizens will be subjected to genocidal massacre, and displacement attempts that we previously warned about." She continued: "We are conducting intensive contacts with regional and international parties, especially the Americans, to stop the invasion of Rafah." The area that the Israeli army demanded to be evacuated includes the Rafah land crossing on the border with Egypt, which is the main crossing for the passage of humanitarian aid into Gaza and the only one used by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip to travel abroad. The crossing is also used daily to transport dozens of seriously injured Palestinians to receive treatment abroad.
