The Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Damascus held an exhibition for the national drawing competition, entitled “Chavez and Bolivar, Two Phases and One Thought,” with the participation of Syrian artists, at the National Museum in Damascus.
The exhibition included a group of paintings commemorating the two leaders, Chavez and Bolivar, as symbols of struggle and defense of peoples’ rights.
“We are meeting today in this place steeped in history, rich in the legacy left to us by our ancestors, and we strive with all our energy to preserve it,” Culture Minister Lubana Mshaweh said in a statement.
She added that the paintings highlight these two leaders who left tangible marks in the history of their country’s struggle to liberate itself from colonialism, and to recover the rights and sovereignty of their people.
Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Damascus, Jose Gregorio Biomorji, pointed out the importance of the exhibition, which coincides with the resumption of the Venezuelan airline between Caracas and Damascus, which is considered liberation from sanctions and blockade, indicating that the exhibition is held to celebrate the memory of two great leaders who were an example for future generations.
For us, the fact that Hugo Chavez’s legacy lives on in another country is a matter of pride and a reminder of our responsibility to preserve his legacy, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela for Asia and the Middle East, Tatiana Moreno, said.
