Trump Charged with Attempt to Overturn 2020 US Election Loss in Georgia

An Atlanta-based grand jury has charged former US President Donald Trump with trying to overturn his 2020 election loss in the US State of Georgia.

The charges, brought by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, add to the legal woes facing Trump, the frontrunner in the race for the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election. He is already facing three other cases.

The grand jury met for roughly 10 hours before handing up the 98-page indictment which lists 19 defendants and details dozens of acts by Trump and his allies to undo his defeat in the battleground state.

Trump and others "joined a conspiracy to unlawfully change the outcome" of the election, according to the indictment, which said they "unlawfully conspired and endeavored to conduct and participate in a criminal enterprise" after Trump lost the election in Georgia.

Trump will face three trials in the first half of 2024, before the start of the presidential elections in the same year. The cases include charges of forging documents, keeping secret documents after leaving office, and to plotting to overturn the results of the 2020 elections.
