Trump Optimistic About Potential Deal to End Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Miami: US President Donald Trump expressed optimism about the possibility of reaching a deal to end the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, following high-level talks in Miami. He indicated there was a "good chance" for a resolution after discussions involving US officials and a Ukrainian delegation.

According to Qatar News Agency, President Trump made these remarks aboard Air Force One, stating, "The talks are going along, and they're going along well. I think that there's a good chance we can make a deal." This statement came after a series of discussions aimed at resolving the prolonged conflict.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also weighed in on the negotiations, speaking from Hallandale Beach, Florida. He expressed optimism about the current progress, suggesting that the talks could lead to significant advancements toward an agreement to end the war.

The backdrop to these discussions includes a 28-point plan unveiled by Trump last week, which was initially perceived by Kyiv as favoring Russia. This prompted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to reach out to US negotiators for revisions to the proposal.

In response to these concerns, Trump announced that the plan had been revised. He also mentioned dispatching his envoy, Steve Witkoff, to Russia for further discussions with President Vladimir Putin. Trump hinted at the possibility of direct meetings with both Putin and Zelensky, contingent on continued progress in the negotiations.
