Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte engaged in a phone call today to discuss the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and potential efforts to bring it to a resolution. Their conversation also covered preparations for the upcoming NATO summit scheduled for June 24-25 in The Hague, Netherlands.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Istanbul talks held on June 2 under Turkish auspices, with international observers present, resulted in Russia and Ukraine agreeing on several humanitarian issues. These included a comprehensive exchange of prisoners of war, focusing on minors and the sick, and the exchange of remains of up to 6,000 soldiers.
Additionally, memoranda were exchanged regarding a limited ceasefire, although a comprehensive truce remains elusive due to persistent disagreements over security and political issues.
