Two Ukrainians Killed, Others Injured in Russian Airstrike Targeting Kyiv

Kyiv: At least two killed and several others injured in Russian airstrikes targeting the Ukrainian capital today, after Ukrainian official announced the Ukrainian president's readiness for a personal meeting with his Russian counterpart to resolve the most sensitive issues hindering efforts to end the war.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported that Russian airstrikes targeting the outskirts of the capital resulted in the deaths of a man and a woman in the town of Bilohorodka, noting that four other people were injured and received medical treatment.

Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration stated on Telegram "In the Bilohorodka community, two of our fellow residents, a man and a woman, were killed as a result of the attack."

Russian strikes in Ukraine killed at least 12 people overnight on Tuesday, including five passengers aboard a train targeted by a drone attack, Ukrainian authorities said.

Separately, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is prepared to negotiate directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding sensitive issues, part of an effort to end the war.

Sybiha clarified in a press release, "the most sensitive issues remain unresolved," specifically territorial disputes and the future of the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. He emphasized that Zelenskyy is prepared to meet with Putin personally to address these specific challenges.

Russia is demanding territorial concessions from Ukraine as a condition for ceasefire, specifically the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

Europe's largest nuclear facility, Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, has remained under Russian control since March 2022, shortly after the war began.

Ukrainian president has previously called for a direct meeting with his Russian counterpart, though the Russian side has signaled no willingness to agree to such a meeting so far. This occurs amid continued exchange of strikes. Russian raids have damaged infrastructure and caused widespread power outages across Ukraine, while Moscow has reported frequent Ukrainian drone attacks targeting its energy and oil sectors.
