UAE nationals return safely to Florida following Hurricane Ian

The UAE Embassy in Washington, DC has completed the evacuation of UAE nationals and their companions from Florida by facilitating their return to the state. This came after ensuring the situation is stable following the retreat of Hurricane Ian from Florida. The Embassy evacuated citizens and hosted them in Washington, DC last week to avoid the hurricane.

Under the directives of the UAE Government’s leadership and in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) and National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA), the Embassy successfully evacuated and returned all nationals as planned under the supervision of HE Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba.

The evacuated UAE nationals expressed their sincere gratitude to the UAE’s leadership, NCEMA, MoFAIC, and the Embassy for their remarkable joint efforts in evacuating them and ensuring their safety and wellbeing.

A specialized team from the Embassy assessed the situation in Florida based on the US State Department’s alert regarding the hazards of the hurricane. The Embassy also heeded warnings issued by the US National Hurricane Center and the Governor of Florida, who declared a state of emergency and ordered the immediate evacuation of the state’s affected areas. Hurricane Ian is considered the third most powerful hurricane to strike the United States in terms of destructive power.
