UAE Secures Victory Against Oman in World Cup Qualifier

Doha: The United Arab Emirates secured a 2-1 victory over Oman on Saturday in the second round of Group A in the fourth stage of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The match took place at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha.

According to Qatar News Agency, UAE's victory was achieved through goals from Marcus Meloni in the 76th minute and Caio Lucas in the 82nd minute. This came after Oman initially took the lead due to an own goal by UAE defender Kouame Kouadio in the 12th minute.

The win places the UAE at the top of the group with three points, two points ahead of Oman and Qatar, who ended in a goalless draw in their opening round. The Emirati team now requires only a draw against Qatar in the last group match on Tuesday to secure direct qualification for the World Cup, set to be hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

All Group A matches are being conducted in a single-venue format in Doha. The top team in the group will directly advance to the World Cup, while the second-place team will compete against the runner-up from Group B, which includes Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Indonesia, in a two-legged playoff scheduled for November 13 and 18 in Jeddah. The winner of that playoff will proceed to the intercontinental playoff.
