UK Economy Grows by 0.3 Percent in Q2 of 2025

London: The UK economy grew by 0.3 percent in the second quarter (Q2) of 2025, exceeding expectations of lower growth, after achieving 0.7 percent in the first quarter of the same year.

According to Qatar News Agency, the UK Office for National Statistics said in a statement issued today that UK gross domestic product (GDP) rose by 0.4 percent in June, following a 0.1 percent decline in May, supported by surprisingly strong growth in the services, industrial production, and construction sectors.

The economy grew by 1.2 percent year-on-year in the second quarter, exceeding the analysts' average forecast of 1.0 percent.

Following the release of the data, the pound sterling rose slightly against the dollar.

British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves confirmed that her country's economy performed the fastest among G7 economies in the first quarter, although forecasts for the second half of the year point to a potential slowdown.

Last month, the International Monetary Fund forecast that the British economy would grow by 1.2 percent in 2025 and 1.4 percent in 2026, a rate that would outpace the eurozone and Japan, but still slower than the United States and Canada.
