Kyiv: Ukraine announced Thursday that it has received the remains of 1,000 of its war victims from the Russian side as part of the prisoner exchange agreed upon during talks between the two sides in Istanbul, Turkiye, in early June.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Ukrainian center for coordination of prisoners of war affairs stated that investigators from law enforcement agencies, in cooperation with experts from the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs, will soon conduct all necessary examinations of the remains and identify the victims before burial.
In a related context, Russian media sources quoted a government source as saying that Moscow has received the remains of 30 war victims from the Ukrainian side.
It is worth noting that at the beginning of October, Moscow and Kyiv exchanged 185 prisoners of war from each side.
The exchange of remains of soldiers and prisoners of war is one of the only tangible results of the negotiations between the warring parties after more than three years since the start of the war between them in February 2022.
