The Ukrainian military said Russia launched a missile attack on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, and a drone attack on the western city of Lviv. According to statements issued Wednesday by Ukrainian military officials, the Ukrainian air defense units worked to repel the attacks on the two cities. The Ukrainian air force said, via Telegram, that all of Ukraine was on alert for Russian air strikes. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Tuesday that at least 41 civilians were killed and more than 180 others were injured in a missile attack launched by Russian forces on the city of Poltava in the northeast of the country. The Ukrainian Air Force said it shot down 27 out of 35 drones launched by Russia during the attack the night before last. Recently, Russia has been launching night attacks on Ukrainian targets, while the Kyiv authorities announce that they confront them every time. The war between Moscow and Kyiv took an escalating course on Aug. 6, after the Ukrainian army announced that it had m anaged to penetrate Russian territory and advance in the Kursk border area for several kilometers, in a new shift in the war between the two countries that has been going on since 2022.
