UN Records 849 Checkpoints and Gates Across West Bank

Doha: The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in the occupied Palestinian territory revealed that the Israeli occupation has erected a total of 849 checkpoints, gates, and other physical obstacles across the West Bank.

According to Qatar News Agency, these obstacles control, restrict, and monitor Palestinians' ability to move, either permanently or intermittently, in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem and the area under occupation control in Hebron.

An OCHA statement said that the occupation has erected 36 new movement obstacles over the past three months, most of them following the announcement of a ceasefire in Gaza in mid-January, further hindering Palestinians' ability to access essential services and places of work.

The report addressed the Israeli occupation's aggression on the northern West Bank governorates, which has entered its ninth week. It noted that more than 600 housing units in Jenin have become uninhabitable, while 66 residential buildings are at imminent risk of collapse.

The report stated that the aggression has caused extensive damage to water, sanitation, and road infrastructure in the West Bank, disrupting basic services and raising public health concerns.
