The United Nations Security Council unanimously approved on Wednesday the renewal of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mandate for another year. The mission's mandate was scheduled to end next Saturday, and the vote on the extension comes after weeks of escalation by the Israeli army in southern Lebanon, and amid fears that the current crisis will expand into a regional conflict.
