UN Welcomes the India-Pakistan Ceasefire Deal

Doha: United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, welcomed the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, hoping that it contributes to lasting peace.

According to Qatar News Agency, in a statement on India and Pakistan attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric reported that the UN Secretary-General welcomed the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan as a positive step toward ending current hostilities and easing tensions.

The spokesperson added that Guterres hoped that the agreement would contribute to lasting peace and foster an environment conducive to addressing broader, longstanding issues between the two countries.

India and Pakistan had announced earlier on Saturday that they had reached a ceasefire agreement following US-brokered talks aimed at ending the armed conflict between the two countries.
