Doha: Under the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the State of Qatar announced the provision of development and humanitarian support to the Republic of Lebanon, with a total value of USD 434,248,000, benefiting more than 1.5 million people, through the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and in coordination with the relevant Lebanese authorities.
According to Qatar News Agency, in a statement on Monday, QFFD indicated that this package includes a contribution of up to USD 400 million to support the energy sector, of which 10 percent is allocated as a grant. The support extends to include a number of vital sectors, particularly the education sector through the provision of scholarships, and support for the capabilities of the Lebanese army through the provision of military vehicles and equipment. Additionally, the package includes support for the sports sector with the aim of empowering young people.
QFFD highlighted that this support comes as an extension of the strong fraternal relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Lebanon. It aligns with Qatar's commitment to supporting vital sectors and enhancing the ability of communities to respond to current economic and social challenges, thereby strengthening stability and supporting recovery and sustainable development efforts.
Marking the occasion, HE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Vice Chairperson of the Board of Directors of QFFD Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad stated that this support reflects the State of Qatar's commitment to stand by the fraternal Lebanese people and support their resilience. She emphasized Qatar's dedication to fulfilling its humanitarian and developmental responsibilities toward fraternal countries, contributing to the consolidation of stability, peace, and sustainable development.
