New delhi: The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has announced that the 21st regular session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage will be held in Xiamen, China, from November 30 to December 5, 2026. This decision was revealed during the ongoing 20th session of the Committee in New Delhi, India.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage is the statutory body responsible for the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The Committee convenes annually in regular sessions to manage and implement the Convention. Its duties include discussing operational guidelines, reviewing periodic reports from States Parties, evaluating nominations for inclusion on UNESCO's lists and registers of intangible cultural heritage, and considering applications for international assistance.
