Doha: The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) revealed that it will keep its presence in southern Lebanon to monitor the situation, engage in communication with the parties, and expedite the delivery of humanitarian aid wherever possible, amid ongoing escalation.
According to Qatar News Agency, peacemakers are closely coordinating with the Lebanese military to ensure key supplies, including food items, medicines, and sanitation essentials, are delivered to civilians, UNIFIL said in a statement Wednesday.
The statement added that these civilians live in towns adjacent to the Blue Line that are hardly accessible, with many families reeling from unstable conditions.
As such, UNIFIL stressed that it is extremely alarmed by the perpetuation of violence, calling on all parties to de-escalate tensions, recommit to ceasing hostilities, and work toward an enduring solution in accordance with Resolution 1701.
