UNRWA calls for independent investigation into Israeli bombing of agency school

Jerusalem - Ma'an - The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, called again for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip after 9 months of brutal war. "The longer the war lasts, the deeper the rift becomes and the more the population suffers," Lazzarini said on the X platform on Sunday, calling for an independent investigation into Israel's bombing of an agency school housing 2,000 displaced people in the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza. "Since the war began, our facilities have been bombed, some multiple times, some directly, and as a result, 520 people have been killed and nearly 1,600 wounded as they sought some safety," he added. He continued: "The repeated claim from Israel is that our facilities are used by Palestinian groups, and we reiterate that these are claims that UNRWA rejects." Sixteen Palestinians, most of them children and women, were killed yesterday, Saturday, in an Israeli bombardment that targeted a school housing displ aced people in Nuseirat in the central Gaza Strip.
