Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Philippe Lazzarini said that all UNRWA's shelters in Rafah are empty now. "More than 1 million people - most displaced several times- forced to flee once again, in search of safety that they never find. All of our 36 UNRWA shelters in Rafah are empty now. This is where people seek shelter and should be protected at all times under the UN flag," Lazzarini said in a post on "X". "UNRWA had to stop health and other critical services in Rafah," he added. "We are now working from Khan Younis + the middle areas where 1.7 million people are living," UNRWA Commissioner-General said, pointing out "In Khan Younis, we restarted operations despite damage to all our facilities." UNRWA announced a few days ago that about 1 million people have fled Rafah in southern Gaza over the past three weeks. The occupation continues to close Rafah border crossing, amid UN and international warnings about the worsening humanitarian situation due to the lack of life-saving supplies in various areas, particularly in the northern Gaza Strip, which faces the risk of a real famine.
