Manama, The University of Bahrain (UoB) announced the opening of "Huawei ICT Academy" at the college of Information Technology at the Sakhir campus. Dr. Fuad Mohamed Al Ansari, President of the UoB, and Aziz Tang, CEO of Huawei-Bahrain, attended the inauguration. Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the UoB, affirmed the importance of establishing this academy, which is expected to train 600 students annually at the UoB, enhance their talents in information and communication technology, and enable them to acquire practical skills in line with the requirements of the growing digital age. The minister thanked Huawei for its support in establishing this academy and providing it with all the necessary equipment to reach the level of professionalism and prepare them for the labour market. Dr. Al Ansari said that the university is committed to developing specialised labs and equipment for students, researchers, and professionals to prepare the students fo r careers in the rapidly growing ICT industry, including fields such as cloud computing, security, networking, Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). He added that Huawei ICT Academy will enable UoB to provide specialised training courses and workshops in ICT, thereby advancing students' skills. He also noted that students from other universities and institutions in the kingdom can benefit from the Academy. Aziz Tang, CEO of Huawei-Bahrain, said that Huawei is committed to provide its global expertise and resources to contribute to nurturing ICT talent and shape the future leaders of the digital economy in Bahrain. The winning team of the Huawei ICT competition, which was held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty's Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, was announced. A student team from the College of Information Technology won second place at th e regional level in the computer networks category. The team, consisting of Sayed Mohammad Baqir Adnan, Ali Naser Al Fadhli from UoB, and Fahad Abdulla from Bharain Polytechnic. The team is preparing to compete in the highly anticipated global finals of the Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024, which will be held from May 22-25 in Shenzhen, China. Source: Bahrain News Agency
