United States: United States Vice President JD Vance, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni discussed ways to advance commercial talks between the US and the European Union (EU). According to Qatar News Agency, in a press statement following their meeting at the Vatican on Sunday, Vance expressed hope that his meeting with von der Leyen and Meloni would help advance trade talks. He emphasized that this could mark the beginning of commercial negotiations and long-term trade benefits for both Europe and the US, while acknowledging that disagreements exist between the parties on issues such as trade. The European Commission President highlighted that trade relations between the EU and the US are the largest globally, with annual trade exceeding USD 1.5 trillion. Von der Leyen mentioned that both parties have exchanged talking points for future discussions, emphasizing that experts should now work on the details to reach a mutually beneficial agreement.
