Doha: Emma Navarro advanced to the third round of the US Open, the fourth Grand Slam tournament of the season, after defeating fellow American Katie McNally in straight sets during second-round matches that began Wednesday.
According to Qatar News Agency, Navarro, ranked 11th in the world, overcame McNally with scores of (6-2) and (6-1), and will face the winner of the match between Czech Barbora Krejcikova and Japan's Moyuka Uchijima in the third round.
Meanwhile, British player Emma Raducanu, the 2021 champion, secured an easy victory over Indonesia's Janice Tjen with scores of (6-2) and (6-1). She will meet the winner of the match between Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina and Czech Tereza Valentova in the next round.
Also, in second-round action, Belarusian Victoria Azarenka defeated Russia's Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova with scores of (6-3) and (6-3).
Azarenka is set to face the winner of the match between American Jessica Pegula and Russian Anna Blinkova in the third round.
