New york city: US President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that European leaders will visit the United States on Monday and Tuesday to discuss ways to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Speaking to reporters, Trump also mentioned that he would soon be engaging in talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. "Certain European leaders are coming over to our country on Monday or Tuesday individually," Trump stated. However, he did not specify which leaders would be visiting.
According to Qatar News Agency, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed that Washington is prepared to intensify pressure on Russia and urged European nations to take similar actions to compel Moscow to negotiate. These developments follow a significant overnight attack by Russia on Ukraine involving a large-scale deployment of drones and missiles.
Bessent noted that Trump and Vice President JD Vance had a productive conversation with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. He also confirmed his own discussions with von der Leyen about potential collaborative measures between the EU and the US to escalate pressure on Russia.
The US Treasury Secretary suggested that additional sanctions and secondary tariffs imposed by the US and EU on countries purchasing Russian oil could severely impact the Russian economy. Bessent believes such measures could potentially force the Russian president to enter negotiations.
